We all want to make our homes comfortable, energy efficient, and ascetically attractive in the Dover and seacoast area of NH. At some point, most homeowners have preformed improvements to their home. Recently, I had a customer perform work on his home. The work was basic, he replaced a few windows and added a layer of shingles to his roof. We went to list his home and I asked if he had permits for the work he did. Not a deal breaker, but many times things we assume are routine do require permits from the town. Ultimately, it depends on the town as to what one needs permits for. Some towns require permits for just about anything and others are not as strict. If you have new roof put on your home the roofing company should pull a permit for this work. Often times they don’t, you can always ask them or check with the town. Most towns log permits and one can check if interested. Also, many towns publish on their web sites home improvements that require permits.
